Act-On Employees Give Thanks

Article Outline

Thanksgiving. Long ago Thanksgiving was an occasion for the community to give thanks for having gotten the harvest in (and showing gratitude that there was indeed a harvest). Today most of us don’t work the land, but we still spend the day giving thanks, often in the company of our families and friends. We hope that you’re able to spend the day enjoying the company of those you care about, and that you have plenty to be thankful for.

Here’s a roundup of what a few Actonians are giving thanks for this year:

Nice bosses, good teammates, OK workloads, great vegan food options… – how could I possibly ask for more? Human desires are evil, though… just saying. —Shine Lyui, Deliverability Services, Beaverton, Oregon

I am thankful for a lot, especially since I come from India, where one might not be as privileged if circumstances were slightly different. For a good life. For a loving family. This year (as always) I have much to be thankful for, but a few things stand out. I’m thankful that I get to come home to my cute little house in the country every night after my long-arse commute, because it means I made it home safely. I’m thankful for my dogs, because even though they love to tell us at 1:30am that there is a bear somewhere within a quarter-mile radius of the house, I also know that they’d stand between it and my son in a heartbeat. I’m thankful for my husband, without whom I’d have to squish all kinds of country-sized creepy crawlies on my own (since apparently shooting them is frowned upon!) I’m thankful for my daughter’s third college major change, because it means she’s still a college student. I’m thankful for my 13-year-old son finally accepting the importance of showers and deodorant, because it means we are no longer suffocating from the smell of Axe or Eau de Athletic Teenager. (And we’re all hoping “clean laundry” is next.) And finally, I’m thankful for the friend that suggested I interview here at Act-On, because it’s been an awesome adventure with some equally awesome benefits that include great coworkers and bosses, and seemingly limitless potential for the future! —Alicia Norgaar Castorina, Sales Operations, Roseville

Thanksgiving 2014. Thankful may not be strong enough of a word for my family and I this year, humbled would be a better description. For Jeny, Cayman and I, this has been a year of growth (both in our work and personal lives), a year of stability, and a year of joy. My wife and I have both had the privilege of stable employment with incredible companies committed to our professional growth. I do not know what I have brought to the table that would necessitate Act-On’s commitment to me personally, but to say I am simply ‘thankful’ would not be near enough. Many, many people have gone out of their way for me this year; for this I am thankful, humbled and beholden.

We have watched our precious little miracle grow into the first stages of toddler-hood (OK, maybe this part has been a bit bittersweet). My wife and I have seen the first parts of our little boy’s personality bloom, and simply the thought of this brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. Jeny and I have been allowed the means to help others this year, and this privilege alone makes me realize just how lucky we are to enjoy the life and freedoms we have been given, and how delicate these freedoms and privileges truly are. Love, Peace and Blessings —Ralph (Product Specialist, Scottsdale), Jeny and Cayman Chandos

I am thankful for so many things in my life! My kind and incredibly patient fiancé who in lieu of a few “quirks” loves me, my adorable dog-child who welcomes me home each day with celebrity like excitement and enthusiasm, my family and friends who always love and support me unconditionally, my Act-On colleagues and customers who make coming to work each day fun, and last but not least, I am ecstatically thankful for my home team winning yet another World Series! GO GIANTS! —Ally Cannata, Sales, Roseville

As for me? I’m thankful that words still matter. And here are a choice few from Carl Sandburg:

Since gray winds blew gray patterns of sleet on Plymouth Rock,
Since the iron-jawed men sang “Thanks, O God,”
You and I, O Child of the West,
Remember more than ever
November and the hunter’s moon,
November and the yellow-spotted hills.
